Apple will reportedly upgrade the A16 processor in the vanilla iPhone 15 to a more powerful 3nm form. This will offer faster speeds while requiring less power.
Another change will be to move to USB-C, which is expected to meet new European requirements. This will bring support for faster data transfer speeds of up to 20 or 40 Gbit/s.
Display
It appears that Apple has decided not to make big changes to the standard iPhone and Pro models’ displays this year. Instead, they’ll likely be tweaking some of the existing features.
LG is tipped to supply all vanilla iPhone 15 screens this year, with Samsung handling the Pro variants. Both screen sizes are said to be 6.2 inches, but the Pro Max’s is expected to be much brighter at 2,500 nits. The display is also expected to come with a new refresh rate of 120Hz, which should lead to buttery scrolling and swiping.
Apple predictor Ming-Chi Kuo thinks that the company could swap out the physical power and volume buttons for haptic, solid-state ones on the Pro model. The buttons would work similarly to the Home button, depressing when you press them but not physically depressing like they do on Android phones.
Camera
Last year Apple added a 48-megapixel camera to the Pro iPhone models, and it’s possible the vanilla iPhone 15 will get that same upgrade. That would mean more detail in photos for greater editing flexibility.
According to leaker Unknownz21, the camera rig itself might also be getting a bit of a shakeup. To make room for the new periscope zoom lens, the ultra wide and telephoto cameras are said to be switching places on the back of the phone.
Sony’s newest image sensor has been used for the Pro iPhones, and the upcoming iPhone 15 is expected to use it as well. That sensor doubles the saturation signal in each pixel, which should help reduce overexposure and underexposure in different lighting conditions. It’s thought the camera upgrade will also include a new LiDAR scanner for improved object recognition. If this is true, it could be one of the biggest upgrades for iPhones in recent memory.
Editing Tools
iPhone 15 models are expected to include a upgraded 3-nanometer A17 chip and will make the switch from Lightning to USB-C. App Library distributes your apps into categories like Suggestions, Recently Added and other ones that match App Store categories; it also has dedicated folders for games and apps downloaded from Testflight. You cannot rename or rearrange your App Library categories, though.
If you’re not happy with the way App Library sorts your apps and want them to be displayed in your Home screen in their normal arrangement, you can use workarounds to disable it. However, you’ll need to jailbreak your iPhone 15 in order to do that.
